The package amazon.com charges is $3.50 but the actual cost is $1.97 to ship, if only it's a standard package of two pounds. The Priority mail is a better option if you want the mail quickly. There is "flat rate" priority packs that fit books perfectly and are free of cost at local post offices. A book vendor would pay $4.05 for a priority pack that would take about 2-3 days to go to another country. Larger books rates are $9.90

International shipping is even more problematic shipping. As foreign shippers would use their own postal system for shipping, there's no way to tell what a fair rate would be. You yourself would have to do some comparison to know the fair rate. First thing to do is to contact the seller and ask for a shipping quote for both surface and air shipping. All sellers would give you this information.

4. Don't be afraid to ask questions, but ask intelligent ones

 It's always better to ask about something you don't understand when you are purchasing a book. But ask only those questions which are worth it, don't keep on asking the same questions, as it can get very irritating to answer the same questions over and over again.

Tracking down your package is another big issue with books. Many customers think that packages are trackable and call the sellers and ask for a tracking number. The USPS does not provide tracking unless you pay for it.
